We are excited to reveal the Bastion Decentralized Frontend on NEAR’s Blockchain Operating System (BOS), available at https://bos.gg/#/bastioncommunity.near/widget/Bastion.

The frontend was designed with minimalism and ease of use in mind, allowing users to access the protocol’s smart contracts directly.

Why do we need Decentralized Frontends?

DeFi protocols must strive to increase trustlessness and move beyond centralized frontends as the primary access point. To make Bastion fully decentralized, we have always encouraged users to independently tap into the protocol via their own interfaces, and BOS represents another step in that direction.

To reach billions of users, there needs to be easier onboarding for users and also better infrastructure accessibility for builders to create scalable and reliable dApps.

The ultimate goal is for everyone to have full self-custody of their assets, data, governance, and minimizing trust points in the process of interacting with the decentralized web.

The Mission of NEAR Protocol

From the very early stages, the main driver behind NEAR was the idea of building the Open Web.

Open Web: users own their identity, assets, data, and the decision-making power over what happens to them.

The BOS is an evolution of NEAR that facilitates the Open Web by creating a layer where people can discover Open Web-related experiences without giving up on their sovereignty.

About Bastion

Bastion is a Lending and Stableswap protocol built on Aurora, NEAR’s EVM-compatible layer. The project innovates with novel features such as: isolated markets, interest rate swaps, increased receipt token utility, and boosters. Building on Aurora enables Bastion to create an autonomous interest-rate engine with superior capital efficiency, low slippage swaps, fast transactions, ultra-low fees, precise liquidations, and harness the underlying UX benefits of NEAR.
